John H. "Jack" Boland Jr., 90, of Nashua, passed away Thursday evening, June 23, 2022, after a brief period of declining health.
Born in Concord, New Hampshire, on Jan. 22, 1932, he was the son of the late John Henry and Elma (Wallace) Boland. Jack was a graduate of the Concord High School class of 1949, and served with the U.S. Navy for four years during the Korean War. Following his military service, he continued his education at the University of New Hampshire, graduating in 1958 with a bachelor's degree in business administration.
After moving to Nashua in 1958, Jack began his career with the former Edgcomb Steel of New England, where he served as treasurer, vice president and chief financial officer for 26 years. He continued working at Law Motor Freight and Law Warehouses as their chief financial officer for eight years until his retirement in 1992.
Jack was a longtime member and past president of the Exchange Club of Nashua. He served on the board of directors of the National Association of Accountants; the Hunt Community and Northstar Steel. He was a communicant of the Parish of the Resurrection.
On March 22, 1952, Jack married M. Joanne Guilbault, and together raised their three children in Nashua. They spent 64 years in Nashua in several different locations, and have resided at The Huntington at Nashua Retirement Community for the past nine years. Jack and Joanne enjoyed escaping the New England winters for many years at their second home in Delray Beach, Florida. The couple recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
In his spare time, Jack enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling with Joanne, reading, fixing things around the house, lunch at Wendy's before golf and, most of all, making people laugh.
In addition to his wife Joanne, members of his family include three children, Debra L. Baletsa and her husband, Gregory, of Methuen and Edgartown, Massachusetts; John M. Boland and his wife, Mary, of Bedford, New Hampshire; and Thomas W. Boland and his wife, Ruth, of Merrimack, New Hampshire; seven grandchildren, Steven and David Baletsa, Jessica Barnes, J.T. Boland, Kelly Valentin-Perez, Lauren Boynton and Megan Boland; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary (Boland) and Eugene Kilgore of Delray Beach, Florida; and Patricia (Boland) and Robert Malcolm of Boscawen, New Hampshire.
